Looks like kids stole this stuff from GI:s closet and tunics are real stuff and probably destroyed by water and mishandling . One kid black waffen ss tunic with visor another generals tunic without insignia RAD tunic and heer helmet and jacket. What a waste :-(

Crazy Kids in California

I have lived in San Diego all of my life. I live a few blocks from Wind n Sea beach. The story I was told long ago is that some of the young men stole the uniforms and props from a movie studio in LA somewhere. We grew up here with some very prominent and rich people in the movie industry. It was not uncommon to go up north and surf, then hang out at someone's nice house and go looking for stuff to do. They also drove an old vintage car with the uniforms on in That years Christmas parade, with no flak from the local papers or old folks. There is a thread about this already somewhere hear on the WAF. I thinks it is about the people wearing this type of clothing nowadays and some celebrities. Smitty.

Gentlemen,

Here's a song from 1966 based on the trend for wearing Third Reich stuff; "Iron Cross" by Debbie Lori Kaye. The song tries to soothe the frazzled nerves of the older generation, and explain why kids are wearing the EK. I have no idea whether it had that effect, but it's a wonderful period piece! To my knowledge, it is the only pop record about the phenomenon.

In his autobiography, Sonny Barger of the Hells Angels relates that a member of his gang brought him a German army belt to wear in the early 1960s. Barger says he thought the buckle was great, and after he started wearing it, the rest of his crew started hauling out their Dads' war souvenirs and wearing them. Whether the bikers wearing the stuff sparked the interest amongst the surfers is hard to say. However, the surf band The Crossfires used an iron cross outline on their business cards, and took their name from the fondness of surfers for the EK.
