Great smock Glenn. Congrats. I have always liked these as well and have owned a number of them over the years. I still have one for my sniper display.

Very nice smock as I like Glenn

        Hello Glenn,
i've seen it used a few times, last one was in a photo report made in Belgium in 1944 concerning snipers who were training. I don't post period pics if they don't belong to me, so i can't show it to you, but official references are : Bundesarchiv 101 I-297-1728-09. The pic shows a sniper walking, he wears a smock with hood and for once the veil has not been cut off or it is not hidden in the hood, but it is down, right on the sniper's face
Very nice pics JPhilip where all the group is also shown wearing the veils in pics 101 I-.....-05 and 08 too . Sadly I'm not authorized to post them too

Snipers were also issued a Muckennetz. I owned a very rare Soldbuch a few years ago when my focus was still sniper rifles, etc. This sniper had a very specific page of items issued to him at sniper school. Amoung all the listed items was a Tarnnetz mit H (hooks), a Tarnjacke and a Muckennetz. Page 143 of Richard Law's "Sniper Variations of the K98k Rifle" has the entire list.

Perhaps a different smock, but a nice photograph nonetheless...

Today I was able to view the film "German Sniper Training". Here are 2 still photos that show the veil. In the film it states that it wasn't preferred because it caused a shooters visual obstruction.

thanks for those pics Ken. boy, He sure is hidden with that veil on. scary! the bogus thing with mine is that its only a size 1, I would be scared to even try to place it over a helmet. not that much room in the hood area. Glenn
