my "sniper" smock

hey Guys, Glenn here. it was a nice day yesterday and I was taking some pics for my good Friend NZMark so I figured I would just throw them up here too. I figured you might like to check it out. I remember one day quite abit back I was looking thru the forum and I ran across a thread of Glenn McInnes collection. (this Man has got great stuff, very impressive. ) and low and behold, there He was... a full front line Heer mannequin with all the bells and whistles to include "the smock". at that moment I fell in love with them and vowed to possess one myself one day. well, down, down the road I was able to stumble across one and with the never ending help/opinions/comments from Glenn McInnes and others I was able to work out a deal with the seller. I was very happy and when it arrived I was even happier. granted, there are a few little tears and one period repair job but none of which are distracting when displayed and lets face it, this saw action, what can We expect. all in all I love this piece and for me it will probably be a keeper. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I. Ken B. I always think of you when I look at this piece. Ken has got a great collection of smocks/helmet covers. Glenn

I think you were right to put the word Sniper on quotation marks as nothing in official texts indicates that this garment was intented to snipers (even if they wore it...)

I agree JPhilip. to be honest I bet these veils were really never used. the material is paper thin and Im sure it got torn/ripped big time in a short period. but it sure does look cool. Glenn

i've seen it used a few times, last one was in a photo report made in Belgium in 1944 concerning snipers who were training. I don't post period pics if they don't belong to me, so i can't show it to you, but official references are : Bundesarchiv 101 I-297-1728-09. The pic shows a sniper walking, he wears a smock with hood and for once the veil has not been cut off or it is not hidden in the hood, but it is down, right on the sniper's face

Nice looking smock you have there Glenn. Your very fortunate to have one with the veil still attached. The couple of smocks that I have don't have the veil.

I just noticed the camo material waist drawstring. A definite plus!

Here's a same type smock in use but the veil and hood isn't being utilized.

Very Nice
I know the earlier straight splinter pattern with no hood is far harder to come by, but this pattern with the softer camouflage is my favourite. You are fortunate to have the veil - you can imagine a soldier tearing it off as an annoying add-on that he couldn't ever see using (in general).
Re-sale wise you also will have no problems
