Very nice and interesting thread. Pity that some of the pics are not viewable any more.

Adding to this leather wrapper thread the following picture was posted last year by member Mel from the Netherlands in the photo section:

It might be an early post war image of the veteran wearing his jacket with insignia temporarily pinned on!
(which also explains the lack of shoulderboard buttons)

These wrappers were worn for fire protection and even though they exist fully adorned with insignia, more often than not they were worn bare...

Here some neat color frames from a film showing one in wear (German troops retreating from the Czech territories in May 1945...the hostilities winding down...
Note leather wrapper worn with baggy Stug pants...

Are we talking of the KM short jacket with Pz cut or of privately made leather jackets ?
The 2 OFF do have tailor made leather jackets ?
Yuo can find the KM ones relatively easy ? with the assorted trousers which is
also with a Pz cut more than the normal KM cut !

Just in general on leather wrappers, this thread contribution' but I agree...the depicted officers have privately acquired ones for sure, not the recycled NSKK or KM types...the private purchase ones more likely often shown in period images with full insignia.. The styles certainly differ....and also some exist mimicking more the SS cut with vertical closure flap. I really like these (from all sources, private, ex-KM etc.....)

In this well known film, you can clearly see the use of black leather wrappers (among many other interesting details)
                  - around 1"14, a tanker wearing a full leather set, wrap with pz colar tabs and trousers
                  - around 1"40, an officer with schirmütze wearing a leather wrap

I agree that the two officers above are wearing a different version and probably private made, although if one looks carefully at the 3 or 4 known makers of the issue type they will find several variations in the shape of the collars/lapels and other small details.

The photo well known of the HG Pz Div. officers in East Prussia from late 44 or early 45 show them wearing the issue type leather wrap....so no question that PZ troops including officers wore them to some degree.

Lastly I have to say that I disagree that there is or was any connection AT ALL of these to these wraps and the NSKK. There have been threads on that topic and the assertion as was claimed some 25 years ago in Angolia's book is without any basis....including the photos that clearly show something very very different from these sets. They may have been developed for the KM mini-subs and used by other branches as well like PZ or developed for PZ and used by KM to some extent as there are now a number of photos that have come to light of both types of forces wearing them. They are for sure later war and in at least to me for sure nothing at all to do with the NSKK.

I just got this leather set reserved for me on the Guild!
This gem was hidden away in the NSKK section!!!

                        Asking $539, very reasonable!

Great find! I wonder how many people visited CG before you noticed that Interesting that the description even notes the RBN Nr. Maybe the best deal on that site.

As this photo demonstrates, these leathers were likely designed for the KM, not the Panzertruppe. Naturally Panzer crews were concerned with the possibility of burns and these leathers sometimes found their way into tanks as can be seen by the HJ Div. crews who were seen wearing the type with brass KM buttons in Normandy.

Yes lots of KM leather ended up in Pz use since the KM was no longer sailing much at war's end...
Also by the HG Div...image credit as tagged!
