I think that the ones that you are writing of are the standard U-Boot leathers (also worn by some crew on surface vessels) and these were essentially publicity photos taken on the training grounds in Belgium. Some LAH and a lot of HJ were issued these in late 43/early 44 time frame.

My point a few post back was to say that just because no similar photos of the leather wraps have yet been published (being worn by SS or Heer) means fairly little in terms that they might well have been used. If these did not reach some issued until after Normandy (for instance) there is every reason to understand that there would be few photos surviving of them being worn available to us today.

As far as I know there are only a handfull of different day/different subject photos of the regular U-boot leathers being worn (maybe 10 or 20 different settings and at differnt times) and we know that these were issued in fairly large numbers and at least 12-18 months before the war's end.

Willi Schweitzer photo printed in Der Freiwillinge, March 1999 but the picture is not great. Wearing the black panzer cap but with the pebbled buttons it could be an overcoat but the collar is very similar.

The cut in the shoulders etc. makes me think this is an overcoat after looking at it blown up.

Nick, That is the HG photo that I mentioned earlier..thanks for the post. I have seen the photo croped a couple of different ways in the past. There is no doubt for me that these are the spec. leather wraps like the subject of this thread. I think that the US Intell report states that some SS pz divs and GD tested them, but it would not be a stretch given the nature and location of the HG pz Div in 1944/45 that did as well. Even if they did not, they could have obtained some in many other ways.

I have spent many years...actually many decades now digging up and digging out (books, albums wher ever) photos of German combat troops in the last 6 -9 months of the war. Yes, there are thousands out there, but most are poorer quality individual (private) made and the others are of some well known series that were captured and otherwise survived. It is amazing to me once I started realizing how LITTLE compared to the earlier amount of photos actually exist of most any German unit during the last 6-9 months of the war.

For example: If you want to know what model of tunic the average TK soldier worn during late 1944-May 1945 you need to see hundreds of decent photos of that formation during that time period.....I don't think that more than a few dozen exist and most of those are not of common soldiers in the field and are not very clear.....They may exist scattered to the 4 winds but they are not present in all published books on the TK div combined....and the same is true of most every other German unit for that time frame.....think about it!

I have 2 such Black leather wraps with trousers ,belts and suspenders all belonging to same person at one time .. Has anyone made a firm decision as to who ezactly used these these ?
Also: I have obtained from same owner a full body Black leather jump suit /wet suit ? It is fully lined with a wolly fabric , has snaps at the collar that could accomadate a hood . The previous owner i have seen wear a black leather hood which would match the other items.
I unzipped and rolled up the leg of the jumper suit to find a stamp of a spider in a web ? What does this signify ? The zipper pulls on the jumper are stamped Nurnberg . The black buttons on the jackets have on the underside the word coronation .
These items are in excellant condition and bare the stamps Prossnitzer, adolf hinne .
It has been my understanding the items are Kreisgmarine U-boot ,,, issued to mini submarine crew men ?
Has anyone seen the funny looking wet suit of the uboot men ? A floppy yellow hat and yelow rain coat ? Has the same stitching as the black hoods .
                  Thank you ,
                  Firion

Leather jacket uniform wrap PROSSNITZ Kriegsmarine Wehrmacht SS

Enjoy the pics of this jacket. Just one question: what are the markings on the back of the button of the other PROSSNITZ wraps please?

I think that the buttons on the Hein made wraps are marked "real corral" or something close to that. It has been many years since I looked...but I can check later if someone else does not post.

Here's an images shared with me by WAF member Kapitein.
It shows KM "Kleinkampfmittel" members wearing such double breasted leather wraps!

                              Hi,

I am absolutely no expert on Leather clothing in the WSS or other branches.

But I have the e-book "SS-panzerbrigade "Westfalen"" by W. Tieke, and there is a picture in the beginning of 2 members beeing captured wearing leather uniforms, and I have also included the text where he informs about the uniforms.

I do not know if it helps,

                              Cheers,

                              Hans Kristian

Here is my wrap. It was used at some point-postwar or wartime? The sleeves were shortened by crudely cutting off the bottom. I tacked the sleeves to make it look neater. Insignia was added by me. You can see where the 2 other buttons were. NO KM stamps I can find. It is RBN without any manufacturer-similar to the one posted byMichael Kuligowski. Jim
