    oh boy - thats an old thread 2003.... almost 7 yrs ago

    anyway - I still have that jacket - and As we all know now its a KM jacket

        Actually I believe these are NSKK leather motorcycle suits which later were re-distributed to the armed forces (Panzer-Uboot use)....

        See Angolia's NSKK book p.52.

                    I do not have that Angolia book, so can you tell me if there is a period photo in there of NSKK personnel wearing this same type of leather wrap or set?

                    I personnaly do not believe that these sets have anything to do with NSKK.

                    I know that many were worn by the KM and some sets are found with KM acceptance stamps and that most are not...it tends to vary by maker and there were at least 3 different makers of the same spec. sets.

                    There are (for 100% sure for me) period photos of PZ personnel wearing these (HG officers for one) and there are some solid evidence of at least some of these being captured with PZ troops.

                    There are a number of questions, such as were these made as PZ set and re-issued to KM to some degree? Were they made as KM set and re-issued to PZ troops?

                    Beaver documents leather PZ wrap sets tested and limited issued by the SS and GD in his uniform series....were these those?

                    The earliest dated that I have seen is a couple of pieces dated 1943 but most when dated are 1944....it is for sure that they were all fairly late war.

                    The NSKK was pretty much an empty shell organization by late war..able bodied men were in the Whermacht....I think that the resources spent to design and make all leather uniforms for that group is a real stretch if not just pure fantasy. I understand that once somthing comes out in a major reference book it becomes "fact" for decades...maybe centuries and that is sad. I would not doubt that a few NSKK personnel may have scarfed some of these up from a supply depot late in the war....but I would really like to see a documented or even a logical train of thought that would give these an NSKK connection.

                        There is no doubt that leather jackets cut in the style of the wool ones were issued on an experimental basis. This excerpt from a US intell report is solid evidence:

                          Johnny, thanks for the info. I think that I have seen (maybe 10-15 years ago) the photo in the book and it was a well published photo of a civilian motorcycle leather set being worn pre-war by a NSKK member....nothing to do with these sets...but these sets were being linked to the NSKK anyway in the book's write up......hum!!!


                          This stuff seems to never go away once it is thrown out there.
