I would not say ,this is modiffied winter flieger haube for Luftwaffe.

Ah, LW items

I know nothing about LW, I was a ground pounder and collect the same. It looks a lot like an early form of a Warsaw Pact/Soviet tanker helmet. I am sure it is whatever you say it is.

It looks a lot like it began as a Fliegerhelmet.

Looks like a Warsaw pact tanker now.

Maybe they found a practical use for a bunch of leftovers.
