    Triple??? spiess rings

I just came across this Waffenrock

    here: http://www.ww2german.com/uniforms2-2.html

Is this correct? I thought for the rank of Hauptfeldwebel on a Waffenrock, The was supposed to be two rows of tress, the one for all NCOs and another denoting Hauptfeldwebel rank:

    Two rings versus Three

Two rings was regulation but three were worn. The regulation may not have been clear or was not followed. There is a nice example of one like this being worn with three rings in the new Waffenrock book by Curley and Stewart. The pages are not numbered but you can thumb through it. It is in the middle of period photos section at the end of the book. Lower left hand corner of a right hand page, wedding picture of a Speiss with his Frau.

I've seen several period photos of three rings in wear - I'd say rare, but not unheard-of.

I can understand the confusion among the NCOs/tailors...

There is the normal NCO cuff tress and the addition of the two spiess rings make a total of three versus counting the initial NCO cuff tress as one of the Spiess rings.
