General der flieger tabs and boards

    Hi,

I'm hoping to purchase the following tabs and boards but just wanted to check that they are 'right' (I have a pair of late war general der flieger tabs which differ somewhat to these) , and also what would be a fair price to offer ?

    Many thanks

The DRGM tag is not correct!

        Hello,

Although the workmanship of the collar tabs is pretty good I would be concerned about all the tags / markings on the reverse hich is not common.

For instance, the DRGM 1415615 is for a Luftwaffe bullion ventilated cap wreath & kokarde, NOT collar tab insignia.

Maybe it's just me, but I really don't like the construction of the gulls on the tabs. Over the past 40 years or so, I've had many sets of general rank tabs, and have just never seen the "V" shaped gulls on tabs which were considered original.

The design and style of those gulls look very similar to some reproduction insignia being sold by one of the reenactor dealers, though I don't recall offhand who.

Thanks for the replies, I had my doubts but needed some help, the gulls were the first red flag for me but I appreciate that the whole set up might be wrong, in which case what are your thoughts on the following (at least the gulls look better ??), be gentle please, I am a total novice in the cloth arena...

                    Jonathan,

For a novice, Luft Generals tabs are probably one of the more dangerous areas to tread as these are some of the toughest to vet (in my opinion)....which I think is why you often don't get much opinion on them when they show up in these forums. These latest tabs you are showing have many characteristics or originals, but I think really require a hands on inspection. They just don't jump out at me as dead-on examples of genuine pieces. The repros in this area are also so well done that often from photographs you just can't tell (oddly enough, I think the higher rank tabs like Generaloberst and GFM are easier to spot a fake, because of the way the eagles and batons are constructed). But this is just my opinion, others may differ and often do on these things. I will say that they certainly look better than the first examples you showed at the top of the thread!

I like these better, although the lighting makes it very hard to tell for sure (natural light would be more useful). Many collectors dislike gulls where the wingtips merge into the wreath, but I have seen many originals done like this. At this point, the lighting makes the piping and bullion look "glitzy" and the white cloth too insubstantial. A hands-on would be best, but, again, these are much more promising than the first set.

Thanks very much for the comments which are much appreciated, I'll see if I can get better shots or better still get them for a hands on inspection. Out of interest what is a fair ballpark figure for genuine Major General collar tabs ?

                        Thanks

Prices vary widely, like anything else in this hobby anymore. If you look around at shows and websites you'll probably find them anywhere from $550 to $1300, depending on WHO is selling them. Realistically though, the price is probably somewhere in the $750 range in the US, probably more in Europe.
