Has anyone seen this type before. First reaction is to say it is postwar but I am not so sure, The specialist patch aside. This was sent to me by a member in response to the thread on Tan HBT style tunics. The color is close to Navy but it has an army cut and army style pocket/buttons. Anyone have another example?

Fabric
I have seen panzer/stg wraps and trousers made of a similar material in a pea green. Some of these are labeled fakes by collectors, the style I am talking about is shown on pages 78-79 of "German Soldiers of WWII" by Jean De Lagarde. I believe this is the same fabric as the gray tunic.

Hi,
I have exactly the same summer heer jacket as your in my collection.
The jacket is not a HBT material made but a nice combat summer Heer jacket issued to troops in Balkans or South of France or Normandy as well theater of operations. The jacket is 1942 dated. It was found in the West of France some months ago. The jacket is untouched and the litzen, breast eagle, and NCO collar tress are forever on it. When the jacket was found only one shoulder board was on it. I find the other one at The Ruptured Duck.
Hope that help.

A very high number of this kind of tunic were pop up in Italy circa ten years ago, all made with the tan italian Sahariana fabric (called Olona) in the model '43 (stright pockets flap). I don't know the kind of fabric of our friend's tunic but the trousers seem to me very well acceptable.

I used to own a similar "balkan tunic" and the material on it was almost identical to standard tropical except for the color. I also own a wrap in the smooth duck. I have no doubts its original. But the material is different. More info on the wrap:

PS The french firm of HSC also made good copies of the Tunic in Italian cloth. Unfortunately I don't have any idea what they look like. Both my tunics were acquired in Germany almost 15 years ago.Attached Files

Désolé
John
I am sorry, I have heard about HSC copies made in "Italian" cloth but from instance I never see one here in France..
And all the tunics, in the same material than your beautiful one, I had seen in the past were in poor condition.. More one of my friend have one, really well worn (perhaps after the war !?) without insignia and from his grand-father a former german soldier in an MG-Abt (from his dog-tag) that fought on the eastern front.
I also heard that the Pz protection uniform from De Lagarde book (is it the Gefreiter of Pz you are talking about ? I am sorry I haven't the book and page) could be a copy, unfortunatly I never handle one of them ! I hope to meet one soon !
The color and pattern of the book's one is not the same than Jim send here. As it is the late one with width breast pocket. There is a lot of period photo to illustrate the production of a Pz protection uniform made of grey (?) quality cotton but who knows about this book model !!!!
In the German period text the name of what we call HBT (treillis in French) uniform is "Drillichanzug" (and the best translation for Drillich is HBT or perhaps not so close from original: fatigue ?).
If you take a look at Soldbuch you will see that this Drillichanzug word was used from pre-war to late years of war.
In fact I believe that german army still use the word describing the "white" 33 HBT uniform after the production of the new one on the wool Feldbluse pattern in 1941.
I always think that part of the production was made with material far from the usual reed green HBT (same thing for the Waffen SS pea camo M 44 uniform).. Therefore there is always the insignia problem and can we say that the use of Tropical insignia on the tan tunic was for subdued and camouflage ?
The other thread bring very interesting infos, please let this one go far ...
Amitiés de Laurent

In the past i bought a M42 HBT tunic made by Caravano and i remember be a poor copy contrarily this kind of tunics which are made with EVERY features (the more hidden too!!). However this kind of tunics were surely presenting in the HSC catalogs but i think that Caravano bought a great lot of them from the italian rags masters where in the past popped up a lot of German stuff then commercialize them over the world...
