    Interesting blue tunic––Luftwaffe? Reichsbahn? Postal?

I'm wondering what this tunic was used for. It is definitely WW2 German era, but I need the help of my fellow collectors to determine what branch of service or goverment it was for.

It is made of a denim sort of material. Looks to have had collar tabs at some point as well as shoulder boards. The collar tabs look to have been longer and narrow. Odd how the shoulder board buttons don't match the color/finish of the other buttons. It has support straps inside, but no holes in the tunic for belt hooks.

I apologize for the crappy pics. I must have something set in the save preferences that is not allowing me to save my jpg files at a larger dimensional size and still meet the required file size limit. Oh well.

The fellow who owned this before me claimed that it was a LW Flak helper's jacket. I've never heard of that.

    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Cincylance

Its definitely not Reichsbahn nor Reichspost I'm afraid..wrong shade of blue, but note that a twin of this tunic appeared on WAF before and was identified by a member (who specializes in police items) as being early postwar Polizei... The mottled material and open neck design and construction, like HBT material belt supports were the clues... Apparently these tunics came in both green mottled (like the war time ones, usually with closed neck) and also blue mottled material like yours, color depending on region or branch of Polizei I guess...
The narrow rectangular collar patch ghosts are consistent with polizei collar tabs...so certainly not LW, eventhough the blue color (more blue-green actually) leads people to believe its Luftwaffe or LW related like Luftschutz which I thought, until I read the other posters verdict...(it being post-war police)
Here's a link to that other tunic. Unfortunately the pictures were removed but
the opinion is still there to read... It was an identical tunic for sure with a 68 stamp (size?) your shows 70 I believe!
For a 2nd opinion you might want to re-post it in the police section on WAF.

                        Nick,

Thank you for the great reply. Postwar didn't even cross my mind. Because of the form-fitted shape and the slanted pockets, I believed it to be an early training or work duty type of tunic. Not to mention, the zig-zag collar stitching, metal ring button attachments and stamped size markings all said wartime to me. I guess I have a lot to learn about these things.

Where could I research more on the postwar polizei tunics?

After closer inspection, it does have holes in the tunic for the belt hooks. They are positioned below each arm at belt height.

                        Thanks again,
                        Cincylance

True I agree, the slanted (angled lower) hip pockets and "form-fitted" shape would make you think its an early tunic. Zig zag collar backing etc...all OK, but the chest pocket pleats (inverted style) are not up to par with WW2 TR designs, but nevertheless when I saw the other one pop up on WAF, I also thought it to be a TR period piece of some kind of para-military organization (my thoughts were Luftschutz because of the blue-ish color) and that twin (thumbs down) tunic that I mentioned supposedly came from a LW pilot... but as the saying goes don't ever judge a piece solely on the story that comes with it... The name tag in yours is typical of pre war design, sometimes seen in RAD tunics, but that could have been added to make it more convincing... or a pre-war left over... But please note that its not my own verdict and perhaps not the final verdict on it, I'm just sharing somebody elses opinion with you. You might still want to wait for other comments or re-post it in the Police & civil organizations forum for more feedback ! Good luck! Nick
