Gold on Black Insignia - Is it Genuine?

Forum members, If someone would be kind enough to give an opinion. This rank chevron is well made with yellow gold silk braid applied to felt. The pip is all hand sewn. The felt is backed with black cloth. This item measures 3 inches tall X 3 7/16 inches wide. It is in excellent condition. I believe this is a Kriegsmarine Seaman First Class patch. Is it Genuine or fake? Thank you in advance, Harry C

Hi Harry. From my research the braided chevron was a private purchase option and is legitimate. I do not know if a black background was legitimate as opposed to Navy blue or Field grey for shore artillery. Here is my example in Field Grey.I know the post war German navy carried most of its war time rank styles with it. We need more oppinions from the navy collectors. Good luck.
