    Yes, different, and as Mr. Singer says, not uncommon. Just less common than zig-zag.

      My f. blouse eagle is sewn in the same manner. Been looked at by two of the best

          I have a field modified parade tunic that has a similar stitching to the breast eagle. On mine it looks like it is hand stitched, using a double lot of thread instead of a single piece. Unfortunately my camera isn't good enough to show such detail.
