    One good recognition feature on Luftwaffe eagles is those horizontal stitches on the "shoulder" of the bird. Originals almost always have these done with a long single hand stitched thread. Fakes almost always have this feature machine stitched. Not a 100% way to tell but a good "first look" factor.

      I agree this is the case on most eagles. But, some fakes also have the long thread, though poorly done. And though I haven't seen it on trop eagles, I have seen the machine stitched technique on some original FJ smock eagles.

      To me the back is what they can't get right on fakes. The dual color thread stitching pattern.
