    Wehrmacht: Covers all branches of the forces.

    Heer: is the Army or Land element of the forces.

      Wehrmacht it's general and inside Wehrmacht you have,
      Luftwaffe=air force
      Heer=army
      Kriegsmarine=marine of war.
      On the license plate for vehicle it's WH for Wehrmacht Heer,WL for Wehrmacht Luftwaffe and WM for Wehrmacht Marine.

          Also note in your reading the abreviations for the forces. OKW were the general armed forces general staff and OKH (Heer) was the army general staff. They did not always agree with each other but the OKW prevailed in the most part. OKW was Hitlers staff of yes men.

            Wehrmacht literally means Defense force and Heer literally means regular army.

              And SS was not Heer, nor Wehrmacht, right?

                I believe that the Waffen SS was a paramilitary force that fell under the WH (and to a lesser under the Heer) for operational control only. They had a separate chain of command and directly reported to Hitler.

                BLUF the SS was not part of the traditional structure of the WH.
