Mystery solved...the Dutch Navy volunteers wore armshields!

    Dear all,

This is a nice find (due to my Swiss friend Stephane who found these pictures some years ago! ).

It deals with the question if the Dutch KM volunteers wore indeed an armshield as is shown and stated on the pages 212/213 in volume 2 of the excellent series: 'Foreign Legions of the Third Reich' by David Littlejohn. As possibly known, do I specifically collect all material regarding these Dutch volunteers. According to the poster the Dutch wore a shield that had the word 'NEDERLAND' above it....but there was no photographic evidence available to show that such shield indeed existed...now there is, and apparently it did existed!

I have never seen such a shield: I doubt if an example has survived...but who knows???

Just enjoy the pictures! Of course, are all comments & additions to this thread most welcome!

    Best regards,

    Coco

The man in image 6 appears to belong to a coastal artillery unit from the litzen and the shoulder strap. He has the criossed anchors on his straps for other trades like funkers, signalers, etc. Interesting pics though

I wonder if it's a Bevo badge? Very nice evidence. I suspect there are a lot more photos of voluteers with badges to be discovered.

Exellent pics, thank you for posting them! There were also foreign shields for Finnish, Bulgarian and Galician volunteers.
