    M36 Straight Combat Trousers

    Hello all,

I would appreciate your opinions on this pair of trousers. The seller sold them as an M40 pair, but I would say they are M36 as the color seems more stonegrey.

They look and smell good to me, but I'd like some more opinions as I can still send them back if they're not ok.

Please let me know if you would need better photos or photos from other parts.

Watch pocket and buttons. The buttons on the hips are metal, the ones on the fly not.

The legs. I know this isn't the best photo, but I wanted to show that the legs seem shortened (exterior part is shown on top, interior part on the bottom of the photo)

          Size and maker markings.

The size stamps look ok to me. Lower right: 100 --- Upper right: 84 --- Lower left: 1** --- Upper left: **

I can't read the name of the maker but the place is definately Hannover.
There is also a date stamp "1940"

                Hello Tim,
From what I see on these pictures, I don't like this trousers (marking size stampings, materiel used, stiching details). What is more all the trousers post war dated I've seen are fild gay color (not stonegray).
                Perhaps more pictures would help.
                Chris

Chris, thanks for your opinion, but I don't understand what you mean with this. I think you are saying that all the post-war trousers you have seen are Feldgrau instead of Steingrau? What would that have to do with these trousers?

I will be able to make some photos in a few hours (not in natural light though). I had to use my scanner for the photos you can see now.

                    Hello Tim,
Excuse my english... I made a mistake when I was writting...I wanted to mean that all the combat trousers I'v seen ( and I have in my collection), with stamp date "40" or over ("41" and "42" ) are feldgrau color. I even own a straight leg combat pants "M/39" dated, feldgrau color. So, for me a trousers "1940" dated should be feldgrau insted of the early steingrau color....I hope you understood my (basic) english this time.

                      Hi Chris,

Yes, I understand now. You have a good point, but are you sure production of M36 trousers totally stopped before 1940? There must have been some period when both types were produced, I think. As the M40 was only introduced in 1940, it seems logical to me that M36 was still being produced in 1940. Both M40 tunics and M40 trousers were hard to find on the battlefields on the Western Front.

I found a spare camera to take some better pics, but it's hard to do without natural light. Anyway, I hope they're of some help.

Front pocket, which is notably larger than the back pocket.
