Luft pilot leather jacket opinions needed urgent

    Hi Gentlemen,

just got offered this French-made fighter-pilot jacket with some pressure to decide fast as there are other possible buyers. What do You think about?
The pilot badge is fastened with press buttons.

As soon as I have more informations or perhaps pics, I will post them here.
Seller wants 1600 Euros for the complete item which seems very fair if all pieces are genuine.

    Thank You all,
    Steve

I agree, pilotbadge is a fake, plus the eagle looks rather undamaged compared to the wear of the leather on both sides of the breast pocket zippers..,think this one was added at a later stadium..

Gene, Jos, thanks a lot for the very fast replies!

I have no problems with items added, as long as they are genuine, so what do You think about the eagle aside from the state of wear?

And most important: What about the jacket itself?

The jacket looks like the typical French example favored by Luftwaffe pilots. I would pass on this one though because I think everything has been added, which decreases its desirability in my opinion.

            Steve,
Considering that everything has been put together after WW2 and is not even original (pilot badge) you can find the same leather jacket on a flee market for much less money and add yourself the pilot badge (400 €), the shoulder boards (80€) and the eagle (180€).

I would pass on this one and keep my money for a better one.

                Hartmann Jacket

I would buy it immediatly...but put a lot of leather soap and fat onto it , so it looks much better than now...
To me the pilot badge looks OK...how can you tell its not...? the scan is bad thats it...

                  Hi Rammjaeger,

I think the guys are right - the pilot badge IS a repro ... look here:

                  http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...ot+badge+cloth

But I can get the jacket also without any insignia for 1150 Euros ...

Just got new pics, only from cell phone. Get more and better ones tomorrow, I hope.

Thank You all for Your kind assistance,
                  Steve

While the jacket is of a type that was used by LW pilots, it's basically a civilian jacket, so for me the big difference would be if the insignia has been added post war or if it has been reapplied post war.
So far I see nothing that convince me this jacket had any insignia before it was added post war. A hands-on inspection might chance that view, but IMO you should not pay more than what you would if it turns out to be a vintage civilian leather jacket.

I think it was on ebay before christmas with just shoulder boards. Made about 750 euros if my memory serves me correctly.

                      Yours, Guy.

The leather loops that attach the shoulder boards also look newly-added and don't match the rest of the jacket.

And I followed Your advices and let this one pass by.

One of the biggest shortcomings for me besides the repro pilot badge was that it doesn't fit my dress mannequin ...

Thank You all for Your speedy help! As soon as I get the next jacket offered, I will ask You for Your opinions again.
