    U-Boat Leather Coat.

    Hiya,
For all you KM buffs here is a leather jacket which belonged to an Obersteuermann of the U-Boat service. As beautifully oily, grimy and smelly jacket as you could wish for!
The buttons are marked C.TH Dicke of Ludenscheid, also has elasticated cuff sleeve and minor damage to the shoulder area. Feels as if it was worn yesterday
    Cheers bill.

      Hiya John,
It belonged to Heinrich Muller who served on amongst other boats U-475 from July 1943-april 45. I have a framed document which is dated Kiel aug 20th 1945 which shows his service record from oct 37 onwards, it shows that he served on another front-uboot from oct 41-dec 1942 as yet i have not found which boat this was. The document is signed by his U-475 Kptl Otto Stoeffler and comes with a photo and breast eagle. His leather pants are posted on the waffen ss forum. I also have a few other items including his Matrosenmütze which i will post later.
      cheers bill.

sleeve straps on Erich Topp's leather coat

I chose this older thread to add on a question/observation about these leather coats.
Here is Bundesarchiv photo of Erich Topp wearing his leather coat, complete with shoulder boards. Apparently the same type of jacket, but unlike the other examples seen on the forum like in this thread and also NickG's in http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...hlight=leather, note the buttoned leather straps at the ends of the sleeves.
Aside from the shoulderboards, do these lower sleeve straps distinguish an officer's version from lower ranks, or is it just a variation anyone could have?

        Best regards,
        ---Norm

          Grey KM Coat

I believe it was just a manufacturers trait. I have seen photos of these coats worn by officers and by enlisted men with and without the cuff strap. These were also widely used by the Schnellboote forces.

Just a variation, as the shade of the color or the lack or not of the shoulderboards... There's not any coat feature that differentiate officers by NCOs or shnellboot crews by Uboot guys.

            Very nice coat, indeed! Compliments!
