    Waffen-SS Schirmmutze piping color question

Was the white color of piping for Waffen-SS schirmmutze standard for all branches of Waffen-SS ? Which color of piping on Schirmmutze had the artillery units of SS ? Any good images possible to see in the WWW ?

    Thanks for any info !!!

Supposedly the ONLY color for officers was white piping. Many will disagree but an equal number will swear that other colors indicate a postwar piece. For enlisted and NCO's, the color for artillery troops is red. Hopefully someone has some color or colorized pics of someone wearing a visor piped in a color other than white and can post them here. Black and white photos leave too much to the imagination.

Gene ! Thank You for reply. For example consider the schirmmutze pictured below - it has a brown piping of KZ camp guards. Does the brown piping of this cap mean that the piece is a post-war produced ?

I think this war time picture off Knights Cross winner Ernst Staudle clearly shows that coloured piping was worn on WSS visor caps. There are many! pictures showing wearers with branch piped caps all till the end off the war.

Regulation said that all Officers should have the white piping. Many did though not follow that regulation.

          Hello,

Peter is right - many officers and soldiers worn waffenfarbe piping on their caps.
In Bob Edward's book on Uniforms of the Panzer Elites (pages 241-243)he shows current pictures of the cap schirmmutze worn by Ritterkreuztrager SS-Hauptsturmfuhrer Waldemar Riefkogel, Kompanie-Chef in SS Panzer-Regiment Totenkopf and who died of wounds 30 July 1944. The faded pipiing is clearly rose pink. There is also a period photo of Riedfkogel wearing the same cap - the very unique 'crushed' effect is apparent.

Think that many fashion-conscious W-SS personnel worn their waffenfarbe piping on their caps.

As an aside, white was regulation piping up to the rank of obersturmbannfuhrer with silver piping then for offiers of the rank of oberfuhrer and higher.

Wouldn't immediately discount the KZ-brown on the cap shown - but would be VERY careful as, with panzer, it is the most heavily reproduced cap piping. All the best,

          Mike

Good morning Dave. The cap above is not object for research. I just picked up an image from WWW. The reason why I post this question is to find out did the scaps like this existed in real life. Thanks for your attention.
