    Luft field-grey visor cap

Some time ago I took notice of a miniature luft fieldgrey visor cap(schirmmütze).
During the third reich period these things were sold as toys for the upper-class children. I think these miniatures were constructed on the basis of an existing 'normal sized' specimen.

I wonder if such visors (luft style but with field-grey crown) did exist in the Luft fielddivisions.

The field divisions were originally manned by flight personnel no longer needed as there were no more planes. They brought with them their Luftwaffe uniforms. However by late '43, the field divisions on the eastern front had performed so poorly, they were taken over by the Heer. The officers in the field divisions prior to incorporation were mainly Luftwaffe and their uniforms were distinctly Luftwaffe. However, once incorporated into the Heer, many officers, NCOs and replacements were Heer. They were mainly outfitted in Heer gear. I don't know if this answered your question or not. But, if it is whether a Luft peaked cap in feldgrau was issued to Luft officers in the field divisions, I am confident that the answer is no.

"The field divisions were originally manned by flight personnel no longer needed as there were no more planes. "

I would not go with this 100%, they were formed out of all excess personel from office worker to air base guard, but it started early enough in the war that flight crews were still needed for flying, not ground pounding.

Only later in the war did you see more and more fliegers coming to the FDs.

      All the best

        Lufty cap in feldgrau

        Hi all
Although I cannot confirm If the luft schirmutze was ever made in field gray I did at one time own a 43 luftwaffe feld mutze ,it was field gray and had subdued trapizoid insignia just like the army one and was sold to me as feld division or para issue ? I no longer own it so I cannot post a picture. I bet Willi Zahn in the flschrm forum would know about this type of thing.

Chris, I agree with your statement. I kinda shorthanded it. Yours is much more thorough.

Sean, I agree that the field caps were put out in feldgrau. I've got both an officer's M43 with subdued enlisted insignia and an enlisted overseas cap in feldgrau. Some speculation as to whether they were mainly issued to FJs, HG or the crews of the tank destroyers in the field divisions. Nobody really knows.
