    KM coastal artillery arm insignia....question

I'm wondering what was used on the km blue shirt/collani?
The the coastal units used the flying bomb on anker patch, or maybe only the flying bomb, or were both used?

I thought that they only used the flying bomb on anker patch, but period foto's show km soldiers wearing the patch with flying bomb in combination with a tellermutze with the band saying "marine artillerie abteilung".

    Here's the flying bomb

The anchor only signifies an NCO rank over that of a private. So both of the examples shown are for marine artillery.

So what your saying AL, is the following:

              - Ranks from Matrose to Matrose Stabsobergefreiter (Seamen) = flying bomb
              - Ranks from Junior NCO's, Senior NCO's and Commisioned officers = flying bomb with anker

              Is this correct?

The flying bomb patch in post 1 is a specialty/trade patch for AA artillery and could be worn up to the rank of officer cadet.

The bomb patch in post 2 is a specialty/trade patch for a coastal gun chief, and could be worn up to the rank of officer cadet.

The anchor flying bomb in post 3 is not a specialty/trade patch. It is a career and rank patch (marine artillerieobermaat) for coastal artillery (could be AA related) and worn by junior NCO's. Senior NCOs and officers had career insignia on their shoulder boards.

So you could have the post 3 anchor patch worn and see the other specialty patches worn below on the left sleeve.

I hope that helps, I know I sure as hell was mixed up a bit.

                  Al

                    Koastal Artillery

If you go to this link you find a comprehensive list of KM ranks. This is our unit's trainng manual. Look at pages 44 through 55 will explain everything.

The patch is a KM specialist patch, not a rank patch. It is for a Schutze (Beobachter) der leichten Flakartillerie (Gunner (Observer) of Light Anti-aircraft Artillery). The patch was worn below the rank patch. The round bomb indicates a Gun Chief.
