    Panzer shoulder strap piping question

    Hello Gentlemen.

I recently purchased these panzer piped shoulder straps on the estand and received them today. The seller mentioned that he thought that the straps had been sew-in straps at one time, but that he thought that the conversion to slip-on straps took place during the war.

Anyway, I put them under a blacklight, as I do any cloth and was a little surprised to see that the pink piping glowed a bright orange (see the 4th picture). The piping looks to be felt.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Well, pink piping can glow. Not all German ww2 piping does not glow. So that is not the issue really. The construction of these boards is very intriguing. posting some better quality, closer pictures may help in determining originality in these boards. Your pics are more like german ebay pics, if you know what I mean...

            Worry not

The pink piping on every period-manufactured Panzer uniform I've ever owned glowed orange. Just the phosphors in the dye. Worry not, at least soley based on the "glow"!

              Hello,

i'm the seller of this pair of boards. I have in my own collection several pairs of panzer boards and insignia/tunics/caps that glow (only the piping glows).
These pair of boards was never in a collection before and was purchased out of the woodwork- but the boards were modified from sewn in to slip in.
Here's a photo of the whole group.
But i told David if he isn't happy with the pair of boards, i'll take them back.

I'll post later some of my glowing panzer gear.

              Regards

              Heinrich

Is the stitching thread of the NCO tresse also used to attach the "modification, slip on tongue" for the board? If so, I would find that somewhat atypical for a modification.

                    Hello,

here is some panzer gear from my collection. 3 of the 4 Items "glow" and the "non glowing" Panzerjäger board is from the same estate as the upsidedown glowin officer board.

                    Regards

Thank you all for your input and thank you Heinrich for your PM. Based on what I have learned here, these straps will stay with me.

Yes, The construction is atypical, but I agree these are most likely private purchase tailor made boards. I have never seen a tongue like that. I must say that after seeing close up photos I like them. The tongue construction and slitty button holes were a bit alarming at first, but these were obviously tailor made, perhaps mobilization boards. Nice.
