    Pink patches glowing orange?

    Hi,

I am definitely not a uniform or cloth collector but like most badge collectors I have the odd items displayed with my badges. I bought a black lite last year, turned the lights off and scanned my collection. A set of LW Sonderfuhrer Engineers collar tabs, pink with silver bullion oakleaves and piping (eg up to Hauptman rank without the wings), glowed a strong orange under UV. I though at the time that they must be repros so I put them aside. However, I recently read (dagger forum I think) about pink panzer piping that also glows orange. Any chance my pink LW tabs are genuine? Their construction looks OK but, as I said, I'm no expert. I'm not at home so I can't post images but any info would be appreciated.

    Hi,
The dies used in a lot of pink felt badges (made late in the war I think) gloe toxic orange. It made me swallow my tongue a bit as well when I first saw that .

      Mike,
fear not, this is a very common occurence! There is just something about the pink dyes that make them universally glow orange. It happens with tunic insignia waffenfarbe and that on schirmützes. So they will be OK.....

Thanks for the response guys, it makes me feel a lot better and I do believe I'll put them back on display!

On another note, has anyone noticed that moths will only eat original insignia?! Of the few bits and pieces I own and am confident that are genuine, they are the ones that the moths zoom in on (at least downunder!).

We humans like fine aged wine or Napoleon brandy. Guess the moths consider 55+ year old wool to be a delicacy. They sure don't eat much Nylon!

            haha--too true!

Hey another piping that will glow a funky orange is Crimson of Vets and the General staff. I have a tunic and visor that glow a psyco orange when I blacklight them. I damn near cried when I saw this since I thought it was a repro. Thankfully, I was mistaken on that set! haha

The one color that just should not glow in my opinion is white. When you see it glow a bright blue, run dont walk (I think at least)

Just chiming in - I own four panzer tunics - all the shoulder boards glow orange. A bit disconcerting, at first, I agree!

I have 1 panzer crusher and two wrappers. All pink segments turn into orange under blacklight.

                regards
