    Ground dug mitten.

I found this remain of glove in Russia last summer, in positions on the SS Totenkopf division, near Demjansk.
I though it is in good condition for a ground dug Item, and was wondering if you guys could tell me if it is an official model, or a field made item. Is it specific to the SS? The material it is made of realy doesnt seem appropriate to make cold wether clothing with...

I guess the free finger is to be able to manipulate the trigger of a gun?

The mitten was found in what was apparently an MG position a bit further down this trench.

The ground of the MG position had a very impressive number of empty bullets on its floor.

        Very interesting photos...

Before joining the Coast Guard, I was a machinegunner in the Marines. This glove appears to be the remains of an asbestos(or other like material) glove used to change the very hot barrels of a machine gun. Again, this is just a guess.

Do you think the type of glove you refer to would have a trigger finger?

I thought that it was for a thumb. The one I saw had a simular provision for a thumb.
