Your thoughts on a Army tunic please

I need some opinions on this Army tunic. I'm not sure what model it is and if it is right for the model it is suppose to be. It came with a button in collar protector that is maker marked but I can't find a maker inside anywhere. Thanks in advance.

well..
a M43 originall tunic.. with messed up collar - green M36 style collar.. green underlays with late war litzen... and suspicious shoulder boards,,...

hmmm...
not a tunic I w am crazy about - these modifications may be period - but may be post war too.... shouldeboards look strange - based on these pictures I would skip - unless I would have it at hand to see if collar was modified period...

Thanks for the fast response. I forgot to say the shoulder boards didn't come with it. In fact they might not be any good. Back to the tunic. Would an alteration like this been done in period time? Why would someone mess up a good tunic in modern times and put the wrong stuff on? IT looks like the collar had smaller tabs on at one time. I guess I don't understand this alteration at any period in time.

when I lived in Poland - iv seen many tunics modified for civil use - collars were remodelled or removed.. etc.. - many of tunics found like that was repaired by fellow collectors with some otriginall collars.. or reconstructed from scratch with pieces of fabrics etc.

I even remember ground dug collars from M36 tunic (collar fabric was quite durable.. and lasted in a ground - oposite to uniform wool..) used to refit other uniforms...

the good thing about this one is that it has internal hook straps present - most civil modified jackets has those romeved

it maybe period alteration (for walkout tunic- soldiers liked the dark collars on walk out uniforms..) but You would have to see that in person - thread.. overal feeling.. etc...

anyway - I collect only unmessed with combat tunics... - so this one is put of my interest anyway :d

Hi Mitch, read most of the threads on this site. They usually cover the reason you are looking for. MONEY and screwing inexperienced collectors. To many, something that looks wrong usually is and looking again at most of this site threads, sucks a few in.

Search the forum. You will find many threads here dealing with re-tailored tunics that were done during the war. It was very common in the period to modify an M43 type tunic by adding a dark green collar like an M36. They also appear in many period photos...very distinctive with the dark green collar with plain-jane pockets (no scalloped flaps or pocket pleats).

IMO, there really isn't much financial incentive to do this postwar by fakers. Most collectors tend to look for untouched "textbook" examples...although there are a select few that really enjoy tunics showing personalized modifications such as this.

but for an enlisted man? not even an NCO, much less an officer? that seems unusual.
