Nice tunic. The guy that wore that was huge for a tank driver. If you ever need to get rid of that tunic, send it my way.

      Tunic

Hi, I appreciate the comliments; it could also be Panzer or for that matter Eisenbahn-Panzerzuge who wore 4 pockets pre'43. Yes, Steve the tunic is massive.

          Maker Marks

Anyone else seen maker marks on the wool before?

            Wow!!!

            Mark,
This is a really fine example. Several things are eye-catchers on it. I have never seen wool that was marked by the manufacturer like this, do you suppose this was like at the end of a bolt of wool or all from that particular maker marked? The Star of David is also unusual although I have seen it on flare canisters like you mentioned. There was an ink pen manufacturer that had the Star of David on the top of their pens made in Germany all through the war but never on a uniform.
The condition is immaculent, do you know the history of it? It had very little use if any, possibly issued and never worn. An old friend that had been in the German army told me that they often had a nice uniform that they would keep stashed away for dress up. He said he wore his later in the war when the warming quality of the late issue tunics became inferior, probably due to the high rayon content.
Put me on the list of potential buyers if you decide to get rid of it and would you consider a first born male child on trade?

I have seen RZM marked wool on political items before.... not a tag but a stamp on the wool itself (inside a pair of political leaders breeches)

                Tunic

Hi Guys, thanks again; I got the tunic 5 yrs. ago from Anthony Jessen; that's the only history I know. I'm sure this was one of those "hang up" uniforms, it didn't see any action that I can see other than minute knap wear at the very bottom of the sleeves, there is no other damage or wear. I'm not sure where on the bolt this mark would have been placed. A couple of interesting points are the zig zag attachment of the bird; unusual on a '39 dated piece. Also, the boards are piped in rayon not wool, definitely the exception and not the rule on bottle green straps. I'm really more into later contract patterns like M40s and M42s, but when this one came up, I had to have it.

Thanks guys for the kind words and info, Mark
