    Kriegsmarine Uniform?

    Hello:

I am not sure if this is an Army officer with the Minesweeper's badge or a KM officer with a private purchase tunic.

    Any opinions?

You know I had an Army Infantry NCO tunic that I sold through Bill Dienna that had loops for what looked like a Navy award on it. It had three loop sets, yet one of the sets was horizontal rather than vertical (like you would expect for a wound badge, IC, KVK, sprots badge, etc..) I have always wondered what badge he would have qualified for and how he could have gotten it. I think it is entirely possible that this individual could be an Army officer.

Hey Erich sorry I never got back with you, the Holliday season was a blur to me! Are you going to be around this week?

The visor cockade looks Heer to me. I know that members of any of the armed services could (and did) receive the Blockade Runner's badge, so I guess that they could receive a minesweeper badge as well.

Is he wearing a Krimschild or something similar? Also what colour are his trousers....dark blue?

Who's to say he wasn't a member of the Kreigsmarine drafted into the Heer during 1944 like so many LW, KM where?

          Ian,

I played with the contrast so that the badges stood out. Yes, It is the Krimschild and the pants are dark green - not blue (or very dark as in a b/w foto.) The tunic is not cut in the usual naval way (two bottom pocket not being patch pockets.)

I suppose he is a former KM man transferred into the Army. Not that uncommon later in the war. Still an interesting foto.

            Ive seen this before...

Ive seen this before.. not this photo, but a portrait of a Heer uniform with a minesweeper badge. I think the picture was on this forum somewhere.

I think I have also seen a KM portrait with a GAB.

I assume they were interbranch transfers. Not unheard of.

              Dave,

I think you will find that they were Erich's threads from the past! Could be wrong but I know he has posted similar in the past.....
