Does anyone have a Panzer Grenadier piped field service tunics? I was curious if these are as rare as I believe they are? The farbe is a very distinctive lime/green or yellow/green and causes allot of collector controversy on the greens. I am most interested in examples that are dated to work on the timeline dif between Schutzen/Kradschutzen and Panzer Grenadier. With this tunic or the waffenrock this could bring some nice details out. For any replies thank you in advance. Angolia vol I and Edwards first book give some nice order dates but no color pictures of these rare farbes on a dress tunic.

This is a panzer grenadier waffenrock. The piping is grass green. It is, however, not the lime green that was a later carry-over of the Schutzen grass green. As far as the 'greens' go, about the only real difference between the grass green and the light green is the spelling. Look at pages 308/309 of Volume 1 of Angolia's Heer series and you will see what I mean. The tunic that PD Sergeant will post is of the lime green.Attached Files

I remember looking at that tunic at the SOS, I was wondering were it would go, nice item have you seen the one Relic hunter has? That green on yours is the one I see as PZG. They are very rare yours and the one at relic hunter are the only two I have seen so far in the PFS. I once saw a waffenrock for an NCO in a collection that was lime green , very nice looking farbe.Last edited by Sammler; 01-19-2003, 01:39 AM.

Sammler - thanks for the comments. I haven't seen the one for sale on the Relic Hunter. Do you have the site link?
I agree that the "lime green" is for Panzer Grenadiers. I've always thought that the lime green was kind of an atrocious color.Last edited by PD Sergeant; 01-19-2003, 08:06 PM.

Well, I'm going to change my opinion on the identification of the waffenrock I postred above. I picked it up many years ago from an auction in Germany, and they identified it as Panzergrenadier. I just stayed with that, assuming the owner had it made up during the war for who-knows-what resason. Anyway, Mike Pruett contacted me and in his opinion it is probably Jäger. I think he is right. While it could be a late wartime-produced Panzergrenadier piece, it's much more likely that it is Jäger. Thanks Mike. I stand corrected.

PzGdr vs Jaeger
I am always fascinated by how much interest there is in the shade variations of the "greens". There seems to have been a WIDE latitude in the shades of green used for Admin, Jaeger and Panzer Grenadier. I have a friend with a light green-piped Erel visor that almost exactly matched the green on the Gebirgsjaeger tunic I am restoring. I thought he had a $1200 cap, but when I flipped it over, voila!, named to a Wehrmacht admin official. I would have thought the piping would have been a shade or two darker for that. That having been said, I do think Sarge's tunic is Jaeger, IMHO.
