PLEASE HELP => Opinion of Tropical AFRIKAKORPS M42 Tunic

    Hello everyone,

I had a quick question, maybe someone can help me out

Is the breast eagle original ? seams ? cloth ?

I would like to get the opinions of the more advance DAK collecotrs on this if its possible.

    Thanks you all,
    Edouard

Not an expert but I've seen a few... For what it's worth based on the blurry pictures -- it looks like the eagle is entirely hand sewn which is not the way the majority of these are sewn on. . The collar tabs look good to me.

      breast eagle

      Hi John,

      thanks for the reply

      Sorry since Photos are bad.

The eagle is sewn in zig-zag but not enterly. Looks it original ?

The eagle does look like an original eagle from the pics. However, there was a recent post showing a fake tropical eagle that was very well done -- but yours is not the same type as that fake. The size and issue stampings look good. I am not saying the eagle was reattached at a later time. I am saying it might have been judging from the pictures -- the stitching shown on the inside of the tunic looks hand sewn to me. Most originial factory applied eagles are only hand stitched around where the wreath overlaps the pocket in my experience.

Though the application of the eagle to the tunic is rather sloppy, it is still well within tolerance for German manufacturing standards. The eagle should be hand sewn around the reath and the rest of the eagle should be machine sewn. The tunic looks good to me. The eagle, from what I can see is authentic.

Some of the better reproductions still glow under UV light, so give that a try if your worried.

Looks good to me. I have seen entirely hand sewn eagles that are very similar to this. Not all were factory sewn.

              Better photo

              Really thank you guys,

              I have better photographs.

It is strange, the seams are not on the pocket.

The seams seems to You original? The eagle?

Thanks John, Steve and Afrika !

unless this is the same tunic that Peter (the collectors guild) has then this eagles position is pretty much identical to the one on His site. His tunic sure is sweet. infantry boards and even a cuff title at a very fair price I feel. check it out. Glenn

The eagle looks good, though the wing is rather low to the pocket seam. Very nice.

Nice and original tunic, with original sewn insignia's . It is not uncommon for DAK tunics that the eagle is half sewn on the pocket. Here is the tunic of Peter Glenn

your right Sander. I got them mixed up. this one is a pionier. the infantry/"Afrika" example doesnt have a bird. otherwise it would be great but this one is nice also. thanks for the correction. Glenn
