    Artillery Shoulder strap

    Hello,
I******180;ve been offered an artillery officer******180;s ( 1st LT.) tunic with a gothic " B " in the shoulder straps. So far I know " B " is for artillery observation units, but shouldn******180;t be the unit number too?
During the war the numbers and simbols were removed, but just part of them?

Any idea if the sholder straps are correct or the unit number is missing?

    Thanks in advance,
    Adolph.

By regulations Beobachtungsabteilungen units should have the battalion number, however, I have seen a lot of period straps/boards without them. As a matter of fact, I have some in my collection.

Take a look at the strap and see if it looks like the device has been on the board for a long time or if it was put on yesterday. Also, take a look at the back of the board and see if there are other holes where something was removed.

Hi Adolph, I would agree with Thomas, finding just the symbol on the shoulderboard is fine.

      Cheers, Ade.

Boards without the battalion number are quite common.
