Fbb
For the Führer-Begleit-Bataillon Richard P "hit the nail on the head". It would appear that when wearing the field gray Sturmartillerie uniform or the reed green HBT Panzer cut uniform field gray wool Totenkopf collar tabs and field gray based shoulder straps piped in white were worn. On the black Panzer uniform black base piped in white insignia was worn.
While some post-war uniform books have stated that black based shoulder straps were worn in FBB I know of no conclusive proof that the EM & NCO ranks in FBB ever wore black base shoulder straps except on the black Panzer uniform. I would LOVE for someone to produce documention to prove otherwise.
Attached photo shows an FBB Unteroffizier on the Narva front wearing the HBT Panzer jacket with FIELD GRAY base insignia.
Hope this helps,
Mike
