      A gorgeous one Gene .

Gene, since we are on tropical tunics, from your experiance how often did they make Luft tunics from the "heavier", cotton ribed matterial?

Yours appears to be made out of the standard cotton twill material, yes?

      Regards,

Gene, that is one sharp tunic! I love that style of HG cuff title too!

Here is my Holz and Binkowski. Came from a vet in Pa with a broken FJ badge (not the badge on the tunic now). The award loops are original and was always baffled by the low set where the wound badge is.

Speaking to Luft trop tunics, a friend of mine picked up a Ramcke unit marked tunic at the last SOS. Quite the fascinating tunic.

Here is an unissued with paper tag tunic. Even the belt ramps are painted tan.

Beatiful tunics Mr. Zahn! They are beautifully published in Robert kurts book "German Paratroops".

Never had a tunic with captured papers yet. Must be the ultimate find

Gene, how many different materials have you encountered or known, that tropical Luft tunics are made off?

Hi Gene - Thanks for the photo of yours. The area around the eagle on mine was lightly cleaned (to removed stain I am sure), but where is the evidence that the eagle is replaced? I am not saying it isn't, just don't see it. Thanks.

                          Tony,

I have honestly only handled a few Luftwaffe tropical tunics and all were like mine in manufacture. They were in various degrees of wear but all were original and most were missing their breast eagles. I'm sure the lighter weight ones existed but I just haven't had the pleasure of seeing an example up close. And yes, the capture papers are a great addition!

                          Jeff,

In pic #3 it looks like there is an outline of an eagle below the left wing and tail feathers, as you look directly at the eagle. In pic #7, it appears again only reversed since it's the inside of the tunic. Could just be me but that's what it looks like.

Hopefully John H. will add to this, as his knowledge of Luft tropical tunics is tough to match. There are numerous fabric styles that can be encountered; light to heavy and different types of weave construction.

While on this topic, John, myself and a few others were studying a very nicely made reproduction at the last Max show. This batch was released on the market about 5 years ago, complete with paper tag. From photos alone they are very tough to confirm as fake. These were not made for the re-enacting community, they were made to fool collectors. I am not sure, but I think John took a few photos of it.

Jeff, I too see some things on your eagle/tunic that lead me to think it could have been replaced. Perhaps it is the angle of the eagle view. Could you please scan/photograph a nice frontal close up of the front and back and perhaps we can get a better idea.

                                Willi,

I'd love to see as many pics as possible of this repro tunic, as well as know who is making them.
