    carved german walking stick

any thoughts on carved walking sticks? i have the opportunity to buy a heavily detailed stick but was wondering, are these faked? if anyone has any photo's of real ones or fake ones for a comparison, that would be great.

I'm sure they are faked like everything else. I have one, it came with the cabin i just bought it was found by a previous owner in the area (an area where 3000 German troops spent the summer of '45) and is nicely carved, although not professionally of course, it includes a girl, a deer, mountains, trees, a river, the sun and has 1945 carved in it. I'll try and take photos of it next time i'm down at the cabin but the wood has darkened with age so the carvings aren't as clear as they once were.

Last picture. I found this Wolchov stick on a fleamarked before the summer, think I payd 60$ for it.

I know that Norwegian Waffen-SS soldiers got them orderd, but also made them in their "spare time" on the front.

                Cheers

                            Servus Jangos,

That's a very nice stick. Judging by the details on it, it was obviously carved by a professional woodcarver. Whethter or not it was carved during the war is up in the air IMHO. To my eye, it just doesn't have the patina of something done 62 years ago, but I do like the beautiful carvings. I tell you this as I am a woodcarver who was trained by a Bavarian Woodcarving Master. Here are a few photos of my two Wolchowstocks:
