A question...

Hello Garth,

Fabulous collection of insignia indeed.

Which has prompted a question.....posed by post 7 in particular.

Did different branches of service share the same colour waffenfarbe at any time?

In particular the shade of "rifle" green used by LW field divisions (the standard green tabs, not those additionally piped for recon,artillery etc).

There does seem to be a simularity in shade between different branches .

For some reason I can't seem to reply to specific posts so I'll try and answer the questions asked in the reply format.

For Patrick: Base branch color were not shared that being said when used as a secondary color the waffenfarbe had different meaning i.e. red as a base Flack as a secondary general Admin, blue as a base Medical as a secondary reserves.
There were three greens dark=admin, medium=LW field div and light=Air traffic control. The differance between dark and medium isn't always clean in photographs but more appearant in the flesh. The lighter green tabs in #7 are, I feel, just a manufacturing variation not a significant branch.

For Laurance: Orange is the branch color for officers recalled to service (designation z.D). If their boards required a device it would be in silver/aluminum vs the standard gilt device for officers. z.D was established on 15March1938 and abolished on 07Sept1939. After that z.D officers worn the appropriate branch color withour special insignia demoting their former status.
Thw z.D. boards and tabs I have are the only ones I've encountered.
