    Gebirgs Insignia Question

    All

I picked this mountroop sleeve insignia a few years ago and thought it was interesting. Has any one seen piping being applied to these badges before? If so, would the black piping indicate pioneer and were there other "piping" colors utilized?

    Regards

    Dave

      Hi Dave,

There was no order that allowed the Waffenfarbe to be worn on the Edelweiss. So it's not official. Some soldiers may have had the Waffenfarbe attached but this was done on a personal basis and only when the Kompanie allowed it. I my self have not seen an originally applied one in the flesh, but I have heared from an other (German) collector who got one from the vet. So it did excist, most are post war applied I guess.

      MfG,
      Bart

Thanks, Bart! Other than the piping, is it a standard issue insignia?

          Hi Dave,

          Yep, it's a standard 1940+ issue Edelweiss.

            Servus Dave,

As Bart mentioned, this seems to be an un-offical addition or maybe a post-war thing. I have a couple of Edelweiß patches with the Waffenfarbe added, along with a couple of leather watch fobs with metal cap Edelweiss and Waffenfarbe piping:
