i believe this to be a Luftwaffen squadron needle. Any input which unit?

Not a LW squadron pin. Its a very common civilian pin, I think the Husken book lists it as a Christian students bund or similar. I no longer have the book.

I disagree. I believe it to be an emblem for short range reconaissance unit 4.(N)/21; it might possibly be 4.(H)/21 though, but that's something to start with.

Wrong shaped shield for 4. (H). Same griffon, on a blunt bottomed shield. Anyhow, if this were for a recon unit, these pins would not be so common. They can be found as both pinback and stickpin versions at nearly every militaria show in Germany.
