New Strap & Board Article Is Up

The new addition to the Heer Strap & Board article is up and running. This new addition lists all of the various devices used.

There are still a couple minor things to fix, but the information is all there. (A couple photos are AWOL, and some of the pictures are missing the owner's credit.) Of the four sections, only one of them came out the way I configured it, so Seba had to go in and fix it all.

un-orthodox enlisted straps

I have found this page SO helpful as a new collector! Thankyou.

I always wonder about the myriad patterns of enlisted straps with non standard tongs.

1) the green felt officer-type narrow tongs. Often seem to be added onto high quality parade type straps. Although a war-time practice (I assume), are there any tips as to if check this was done postwar?

2)The other pattern is the folded over loop of thin herringbone pattern cloth ("ribbon") used as tongs.

3)The backing material made of bright blue or green felt , oftern on a seemingly early war green strap. (I have heard that this was a late war practice but why the high quality cloth with the cheap felt backing?)

4) what are we to make of so called "private purchase", as an excuse for non orthodox patterned straps. Odd button hole manufacture etc. Any tips for helping tell fakes in this area?
