nutmeg...you did not exactly ask, but I assume you were looking for an overall comment on yours. If I am out of line, I apologize.

My opinion is the example you show is a reproduction. I am particularly concerned that you say it came out of Austria a long time ago....so did so many of the fakes that are around today.

What strikes me as signs of being a reproduction is the type background cloth ( a felt-looking material that as far sas I know was not a base used in the production of this cufftitle and is used in many, many reproductions of cufftitles at large), the general different look of the embroidery, the backing on the whole cufftitle is to my knowledge something never seen on any period cufftitle, and the 'finish' of the ends are more typical of what I am used to seeing on reproductions of a lot of different cufftitles.

the "Russia Braid" in my opinion is not correct!

Go down to your local "haberdashery" and see what I mean. It is very difficult to buy the "thicker" quality Russia braid nowadays.
