    7 day Money Back Guarantee

A couple days ago I posted 6 Nazi naval flags a guy I met on Facebook is selling. We agreed on a price but he put on the Paypal invoce: 7 day money back guarantee if it is proven the flags are not authentic. I replied, most sellers I have seen give a lifetime guarantee because if they are indeed authentic, there's no difference between a 1 day or lifetime guarantee. I said the only reason for a short guarantee period is if the seller is not sure they are authentic and is hoping the guarantee will expire before the buyer realizes they aren't authentic. I like the flags and a couple people on here said they think they are authentic but people have also been mistaken. This is a lot of money and I am afraid of getting stiffed. I don't know if I can authenticate these flags in just 7 days. Am I right in making a big deal out of this?

    Hello jim:
IMO RKF's in question appear authentic.
As for doing a deal via a Facebook offer.
So maybe an approval basis is in order here?
RKF's are not rare, lots to be found at shows.

If they are authentic then why only a 7 day guarantee? Seems to me any fabric company could have these flags made to look legit without much effort. He wants $1,800 for all 6.

Whst do you mean approval basis?

$300 each is well below market price,
so maybe deal is too good to be true.
WW2 German flag material is not now
readily available - light weight cotton,
or the loose weave 100% wool bunting.

It is not at all reasonable to expect a lifetime guarantee from a private seller. If you need that, you will need to buy from a dealer who offers that, and you will pay more. Most Facebook deals are as is, cash and carry. You are lucky to get any inspection period at all, with such a deal.

Authentication of those flags is a simple matter. They are either real or they aren't, and someone who knows flags can authenticate them in 30 seconds. The flags you show are original, by the way.

There are very very few items in collections with real iron clad provenance (photos/documentation) dating back to before 1945. Authentication is generally a matter of collector consensus opinions, comparisons to accepted originals. Opinions on authenticity and what is or is not accepted can change with time. A lot of times, when collectors sell stuff, it's to buy other stuff and the money is gone. Professional dealers can offer lifetime guarantees. Private collectors shouldn't have to, and shouldn't be expected to.

He said be bought these from the family of the vet that brought them back and doesn't collect flags so he wants to sell and buy other items. He was asking $500 for each flag individually. This is the bulk price I guess. But yeah I am worried these are fake. I am new to collecting. I just sent him an email saying I will buy if he gives a 90 day money back guarantee. That way I have enough time to make sure they are legit.

Do you think I can authenticate them myself with experts on this website's help once I get them in hand?

These flags are really common things and if there is some kind of superfake that is very difficult to evaluate in photos, it is unknown to the collector community. You already have OFW telling you they are real and he is as much of an expert on these as you will encounter anywhere. Everything about the flags you show certainly appears to be exactly what one would expect with regard to materials, construction and markings.

I just paid through Paypal invoice and he's shipping them out Thursday. Can't wait to get them I've never seen a Nazi flag except on the internet.

Any special reason you want 6 of the same flag?

I don't but he offered a great deal if I bought them all. They aren't exactly the same, 2 different sizes and one has vet's names on it. I will likely keep 2 of them and sell the other 4.
