    New Gold Adler

    Hi Guy's,
I'd like to present my new pressed cardboard eagle that arrived yesterday from Germany. Our fellow forum member Rev. Stone located this and another smaller silver eagle and after some negotiations both were purchased and are now here in Melbourne Australia. The gold adler I framed myself with velvet background.
Overall it's 110cm x 75cm and is an imposing feature on office wall.
    Regards,
    Steve

      Hi Steve,

This is quite an impressive display piece! Was this piece created from a period original sculpture or carriage eagle? I assume that a "pressed cardboard eagle" -- especially in this apparently-pristine condition -- is not 'original to the period' itself...

You refer to this piece as a "New Gold Eagle" and I wonder what "Gold" is a reference to? This piece appears to be silver or white in color, though that could be caused by the photographic conditions...?

Thanks very much for sharing this with us!

There were manufacturers for this deko-stuff. I have them mentioned in a pricelist, but the one shown was the early NSDAP version, which I used for my RR eagle book
(page 53 does show such an eagle).

Beautiful piece with crisp detail and display. Too bad they didn't make these out of aluminum with this kind of detail.

              Hi Br. James,
It is indeed a period piece with original RZM label behind the eagles head.
The swastika and wreath base I bought on Estand from the UK as it was a separate stamped cardboard item. The eagle came from Germany - also came with a wreath but the swastika had been removed. All I did was simply put my swastika wreath to the eagle and used gold split pins to crimp the two items together. Chances are it was even made by the same firm at one stage early in the TR period. BTW it is a crisp golden color so It must be on your computer screen that shows silver. It is as new item for me but it is a genuine period artefact.
And many, many thanks to all of you for taking the time to make positive comments.
              Regards, Steve

                  Hi Steve,

Thanks very much for the further details of this piece. And you must be right that the 'silver' color of this piece is from my computer screen...which occasionally happens.

                  Cheers,

                  Br. James

                      Hi Billbert,
Many thanks for your kind words. It seems these were used for early NSDAP
Functions and rally’s. I’m lucky that these items that I purchased from 2 completely different sources have been matched perfectly. The size alone once mounted in a Hugh frame commands respect.

The eagle as shown is from the mid 1930's. The earliest version was the political eagle as worn in the style with SA, HJ and SS headgear, but other organizations as well.

Now this is my second adler that I framed and mounted it today. It's silver and measures only 56cm / 22 inch wide and smaller than the one that started this thread. It came with the swastika removed - so I obtained some 2mm thick black Perspex and simply cut it to suit the empty wreath. I then painted a silver border on the swastika and glued it to the wreath. It's a very handsome display. You can see the larger gold adler in the left hand side of the reflection. This one will probably be on the estand in the near future. Thanks for looking.
