    Mothballs

I decided to finally start using mothballs. To start, I have no moth issues in the house. The flags are isolated on a roll in their own personal boxes and placed up on a wire shelf. I basically just want to use the mothballs as an initial fumigation against any possible moth eggs that traveled into my house with a new flag. This brings on my question. How long should I keep the mothballs in each box to ensure the eggs hatch, so the Naptholene can kill the larvae?

I tried looking up this information, but regretfully the search results are about natural alternatives and the evils of mothballs.

    IMO crushed mothballs works best.
    Eventually they evaporate away, so
more will have to be added over time.

PS/ I've always regretted back years ago
when Raid took their moth spray off of the
    market, as it
    contained Diethyl diphenyl
dichloroethane, then banned in the US but
maybe still available in Canada? I
    t didn't
stain what it was used on and even better
killed the hidden moth eggs before becoming
the larva that eats all the holes - when you
see a moth flying around it is already too late!

Yes, I'd love to have some of that ...I'm always late to the game. I had my flags piled up the guest bedroom on the bed. The others were on the bed in boxes. That's where I had the mothballs. I was fine keeping them in there till I realized the closet in that room had a years worth of emergency food....next I moved everything to the third floor. It still stinks though, I'm going to have to air out a little better. It's amazing how so few balls can make that much presence. It's getting warm now, so I'll take the mothballs out in 2 weeks.

For my kimono-collection I do use strips and moth traps. They do not smell and do help quite well.
Control with regularity. Haven't seen a moth flying around in five years. I do not know how they are
phrased in English. Just wash your hands.
Mothballs get you headaches and stink for a long while.

I saw a moth in my kitchen last Dec. A friend said to get those moth glue traps.
They come in pairs. I bought two boxes but eventually bought 10 over all. 20 traps.
I have thrown out about 16 since then, all full of small moths.
I have yet to find the source of the problem.
Fortunately I have all my stuff downstairs where it's cooler and so far I have only found 2 buggers in that room.
I don't know if the smell of the traps are bringing them in as I live on a hill but I gotta do what I gotta do.
I also make it a point, if I buy anything wool, to stick it in the freezer for at least a week.
          I also use moth balls.

Two things for me that I have found to keep the home and collection moth free...

            1. When I bring a new item home, take it outside, shake it out, place it in a plastic bag and stick it in the freezer for 30 days.
            2. Take the item out of the bag and store it in a sealed large plastic bin with Enoz lavender scented moth bars in there(keep them in their cage).
            3. Inspect and shake out the items in the bin from time to time and replace the cakes.

The lavender scented cakes do have an aroma, but it isn't as bad as the original moth balls.

                moth balls

                Hello

Once again I learned something new today after reading on this forum , the risk of moth eggs and moths . Being totally naïve again , I have purchased some flags to quench my dagger collecting passion some years ago. I don't have a extensive flag collection , about a dozen or so, but I have read in the past on this forum to roll them up for storage and I inserted them in a card board tube and stored in a climate controlled storage place. Because I don't have a man cave ,others flags are neatly folded in a heavy zip lock poly bag as the flag was shipped in a concealed location . I don't regularly have the flags out for me to inspect or handle them but I hope I don't get a surprise with a bunch of new holes . I can honestly say I have not noticed moths in my house or the last time over a year or so ago when I had them out for just looking t them , maybe darn lucky , the same would probably apply to my arm band collection if wool construction ?
