Italian Flag

Can anyone help me to determine the age of this one? Other comments are welcome also.

It was sent back to Britain from Civitavecchia in 1945 along with a 5th/8th Army medal and an Italian fascist badge.

Stitched into the pole-side of the flag is "Fece Mauri Via Cappellari 7 - Milano" which I believe is the maker and their address, near the Duomo di Milano.

It's made of green white and red silk, measures about 115 x 125 cm and has a silver bullion fringe (which to my eyes looks a golden colour).

Hello stahblue:
IMO, especially nice with the hand embroidered
1943 and before Royal Italian Crown above the
center House of Savoy shield. More of a trooped flag
in size, i.e., not in the naval nor a flag pole flown size.
For more examples see WAF Italian forum f=97, using
flag as a search keyword. Great with the maker ID too.

Lakeside Trader had one just like it except for the crown. Stated it was a Kingdom of Sardinia flag. Anyway....it sold for about $200 bucks.

Stitching on yours looks way more elaborate.

I wonder if anyone can give me any advice on storage - I know the preferred way to store silk flags is to keep them flat but I don't have the space for that! I can also see that folding is to be avoided if possible.

Would it be a good idea to "roll" the flag around a cylindrical object?

I think rolled would be a better choice than folded. Folding can cause hard to remove creases and aging to the exposed surfaces. Just my 2 cents
