    Veteran's Kriegsflag help needed.

I have the chance to buy a flag. It is approx. 43 x 45 inches long. I've tried researching online, but have no books on flags either to help with my research. Any idea on what to look for to make sure it's not a fake? Is it even the right name for the flag that I put in the topic thread? Thanks.

I hadn't seen a pattern like that before either. I've looked for it online and only come up with two different sites that have had it. One is ioffer.com...... and the other seems to be another dealer. I don't know enough about flags to really know if this is a fantasy flag or not. I'm hoping Old Flags Wanted OFW will chime in and help me out. If it is real, I wouldn't mind owning it. If it's not, I'll leave it alone. From what the person selling it said, there are no markings on it. I plan on going to look at it hopefully tomorrow and I'll take pictures and report back.

        Hello a_i:
        Flag of the
        Deutschen Marinebundes. Appears
to be an original based on stated size and small
moth holes in material - actually a good sign IMO.

SO what's a fair price to offer this man? I can't find this anywhere online except for one that's already sold (no price) and another one on ioffer.com and I'm not sure if that price is a legitimate price (roughly $1000). Any idea on what to offer this man and what a good price for this flag would be?

I've seen the more common KB vet flags (post #4, 2nd on left)
go for $200 to $300, and as you have already noted online far
fewer MB-anchor flags (post #4 far right), so maybe worth 2x.
Flag should be made of 100% wool, thus moth holes showing.

Thanks OFW. I was hoping you would see this and help me out some. I've seen the more common KB vet flags (2nd on left) before and had a good idea of their pricing. I haven't really seen this flag though and I wouldn't mind owning it, but don't want to be fooled by a fake flag. So I really appreciate your help.

What's a good way to look this flag up for research purposes? I've tried googling it, and not much comes up that I can understand. It seems to translate into the German Federal Navy. Any suggestions?

Good question, with no easy answer in this case. Since the
DMB was most likely a Northern German based organization
centered in the Kiel area, with their primary focus being to
to erect a memorial to the fallen sailors. In 1936, the Navy
Memorial was inaugurated in Laboe, and during the Third
Reich the Navy League chapters lost their independence, &
on 4 March 1935 became the National Socialist German Navy
Association eV (NSDMB) Headquartered at Bremen.

Usually if I see something I have never seen before and I know its a good flag I always try to pick it up.

I have never seen one of those flags for sale before.

Craig I normally think the same thing. But not having seen this flag in person yet, I wasn't sure. Since I haven't seen it, I wanted to make sure it was a legit flag and not some fantasy piece.
