    Hello Beersheba4thLH:
Many of the German captured enemy unit flags
ended up in the Berlin Museum during WW2.
When Berlin fell the flags went to Moscow, and
I believe a number were returned to the Poles.

    OFW

Includes several Polish & French, later Soviet too.

(below) same photo of captured Polish 42nd flag, seen online...

        nice

Nice captured flag and standarte photos. At first I thought the overlaid stars denoted points of interest rather then say copyright infringement.

            OFW,

Curious on the original flag you posted if its whereabout are known and what the value would be "as seen" in the photo? Also, I have seen some period photos lately of a German 4X4 standart that have specific unit designation by the corners. Do you know about these? Have pictures of?

              Hello Shawn Bern:
I've not yet confirmed (for myself) that the 1939 German
captured Polish 42nd Infantry flag (post #1) was returned
by the Soviets in 1945. Maybe another WAF member has
visited the current Polish Military Museum, and might have
seen it on display there? As for your "German 4x4 standart"
question, sounds like you are talking about the green Heer
pattern flag with the numbers 27 in two corners, the flag
of the III battalion of German Infantry Regiment 92, which
held the title “Jägerbataillon Finland”. I saw a photo of
this flag in the 1970's attributed to a woman named Karen
in the USA. Since then other examples seem to exist too,
one found by the British after WW2 in Mecklenburg-Vorpom-
mern (northern Germany) and by mistake was associated
with a battallion of the Deutsch-Arabischen Legion (german-
arabic legion), so it was in 1965 oddly sent to Egypt, where
I understand it is still resides in a museum at El Alamein.

              OFW
(below) the green German Infantry Regiment 92 flag(s).

Here is one of my favorites, captured in
the 1940 Battle of France. Back in the 70's
I contacted the French 145th Regiment
Museum, they said they never got it back.

                    more from Paris ...

More from Paris - French captured flags
in the Les Invalides Chapel. Would be
nice to have a list of these, and photos
of each with their capture history too.

                      Shawn:
Value of a flag is always subjective IMO.
Depends who is selling, and who is buying,
                      and the venue too.
