    SA Signals Sturm Flags

How rare are SA Sturm signals flags and did every Sturm have a signals group?

    Hello darrenbate:
Interesting question. I too wonder how many SA signals unit
flags there were. General SS had only 14 signal battalions out
    of (~104-rgts x 3-btls) 312 battalion flags, ~5%. The SS, from
what I've seen, only had Sturmbann (battalion) signals flags,
but the SA also had Stürme (company) signals flags. Making SA
signals unit flags (fahnen) more numerous, but still likely low
statistically to the overall numbers of SA formation flags.

(below) Two of my signals battalion flags, SA unit location yet to be
identified, SS unit believed to be from Dusseldorf in area "West". OFW

According to the organizational schematic found in the NSDAP Organisationsbuch, each SA Standarte had a Nachrichten Sturm.

        Hello paulj:
        Superb 2/119 multi-patch SA signals
company flag - bravo! Wondering if my like
color SA signals 5 corner patch flag is for
a SA admin area rather than a regiment?

PS/ As I write this I'm watching "Castle Keep" on
Antenna TV, while "Combat" is on at the same
time on ME TV. My remote is getting hot. OFW

Nice patches: so-called Traditionsnummern for the earlier units which used earlier this flag. The flag was first used by some other regular SA-units from the same Standarte (Sturm 8 was the oldest unit which first used this flag) , to be in the hands of a signals unit finally (zeitlicher Reihenfolge). First signals Sturm 17 and at the end Sturm 2. 119 was located in the Südwest-group, the Stuttgart-area.

Due to the fact many flags were not correct on November 28, 1938 a regulations was published in the Verordnungsblatt der Obersten SA-Führung (Führungsamt FO - which means Fahnenordnung - 2b 13723) how flags had to look.

The only possibility I can think about is the SA-group of Franken, in the area of Mellrichstadt and Bad Kissingen or the SA-group of Schlesien, the area of Bielitz. In both existed a number 4 Standarte with a sulfur-yellow patch.

I think the color for the patch 119 could be faded, as this should be more orange-yellow. As far as I know in no other district a number 119 existed that matches the color yellow. I just found out that a mounted-standarte 119 was located at Schlesien, but I do have no information other SA-units as foot-SA did exist there. If this mounted 119-unit had a signals-unit I do not know, but there should have been then the crossed lances also upon the patch.

By the way. This is verified and actual: the SS signals 4 is for Nachrichten-Sturmbann 4 from Düsseldorf in Oberabschitt West. This unit was located at the police-headquarters (Polizeipräsidium at the Mackensenplatz).

Thought maybe my SA Signal 4 unit flag was for an independent
battalion of a SA Gruppe, rather than to a numbered SA regiment.
Based on it having a single number, vs a signals unit attached to
a regiment, for example 2/119. But looking at the 1937 Org book,
tafel 35, I do note a SA Signals bolt 32 green collar tab example
cited as Nachrichtensturm der Standarte 32, Gruppe Thuringen.

PS/ And thanks for my SS Signal 4 Battalion location confirmation.

as far as I know the number for the Standarte was used until late 1938 when the new flag conditions were described. Then it was specifically said that the symbol for the special forces was to be positioned in front of the Sturm-number. If this new arrangement actually was introduced earlier then late 1938 is not known to me.
