Wool NSDAP Flag, with Snap Clips

    Hello:
A recent thread mentioned the use of "snap clips" and it made me curious about a party flag that I have. It is not maker marked, is double-sided, multi-piece (each swaz is a single piece of fabric), and the background is wool. Measures approx. 46" x 54" (~ 117cm x 137cm), with 5 "snap clips" on the longer edge (along with a hemp rope protruding from the ends). All four sides are hemmed over (~2"). Was this flag meant to be attached to a pole that a person would carry, or meant to be hoisted up a tall pole, or maybe just hung horizontally from the clips? Any opinions would be appreciated.

    Best regards,
    Kent G.

    Hi Kent,

Id say your the flag was originally meant to be suspended by a pole through the folded over fabric tunnel but appears to have been modified with the snap hooks. Most likely period and the clips look period as well.
Most likely adapted to suit the flags usage, whatever that was.

Ive seen these factory applied on mostlyl NSBO and DAF flags.
Factory applications of these tend to sit in from the edge, with the loop at he bottom of the clip, sewn almost completely around.

I think there was a Daf flag recently posted with what im talking about.
The thread was "DAF flag-vet acquired".

      K.K.:
Thanks for your comments. The DAF Flag thread was the one that got me wondering about mine. I tend to agree with you about the addition of the clips to the pole pocket.

      Regards,

        Hello KG:
IMO, a nice likely period modified flag for special
display use as "attached to a pole that a person would
        carry,
". As indicated by four "hemmed" sides, and WW2
period DE type karabinerhaken (snap hook) additions.

(below) special display use flag, with 5 added snap hooks?

Thanks for your comments and compliments (and the photo).
I mistakenly said the hooks are on the longer edge- of course, they are on the shorter edge.
