Banner price question

    Hello folks,

I met with some folks last night that had a very large party banner for sale. These folks had contacted me based on one of my newspaper ads. They new nothing about pricing for the banner.

The banner measured about 15' long and about 4' wide. It had a folded-over loop in one end for hanging. The banner also had a maker tag. One small hole - overall very nice condition. The swastika was printed onto the white field. Double sided banner.

As we began talking about pricing, I asked the wife and the husband what they thought the banner was worth. The wife said she thought about $400, and the husband estimated it to be worth at least $250. I knew it would be difficult to purchase the banner at that point.

In my mind I estimated the price of the banner at about $100 maybe $125, so I offered $75. What would anyone do with a banner so big, I thought.

Needless to say, I left without the banner. This is not an uncommon experience when running ads.

QUESTION: Based on my description, what would you have offered for the banner?

Desperately seeking a Juncker Knights Cross ribbon loop and well used Knights Cross ribbon!!!

thats a good price, because it's hard to sell due to being so big.

Large banners are usually much over priced unless something quite
special - even then few collectors will want them as how to display
same is the problem! I once had a 7'x60' HJ banner from the Nuremberg
Rally Stadiums, but long ago let it go as it just sat around looking like a rather large roll of red and white cloth - much later I found out that some bad news dealer ended up with it an cut it up into pieces to make lots of little flags - a too bad of an end for a nice and rare flag! Also at a militaria show in New Jersey I came across a fellow selling pieces of a large Civil War American flag, he said he got more for it by the piece than he could ever get for it altogether - again another sad end to a nice vintage but too large flag! To address your flag price question, the price of a collectable is always a subjective matter - being whatever the seller and buyer judges that to be at the time, with the standard rule of thumb in the antique trade being never to pay more than 1/3 of the intended resale price, which in this specific case I would say the resale value would be say $250 or so at a slow show, or maybe more on a better day? One thing large flags are good for is a table cover for under your stuff or for when you have to leave and cover your show table, that is if the show management will even allow a Nazi flag to be used for same? At the now few militaria collectors shows that I still attend I use a really large pre-WW2 DAK (German motor club) Gau marked banner with a great looking large black DAK eagle in the center rather than a swastika, and I always seem to get someone asking me later how much I want for it - but hell its now my table cover and thus to me good for something other than just being another damm old big flag!
OldFlagsWanted.com

Happens to me all the time Calvin,,regular printed party flags are even more difficult to purchase because they're not valued much.

Yes I have one of those as well. 6' high 24' long. A marked Hitler youth. It came with some other very nice stuff and a real decent price for the lot, but I wouldn't dream of selling it to someone who would cut it up. What a sin.

I love those large banners. What I would do with one I do not know but would love to have one none the less.
