      Hello fliepke:
~$500 bent wing tip down and wings out gilt eagle is IMO
an Italian Youth (GIL) Standard pole top, not Italian SS.

(below) Fascist Italian Youth parade... note fascio & shield cap.

        Hello Oldflagswanted,

the pennon top pole not G.I.L. is for the fascist sport association.
Please see the scan of the book about the italian banner and pennants
of fascist organization 1919-1943 (page 147) of my old friend Alberto
Brisone (R.I.P.) great collector of flags.
The photo in the book reproduce the original design of the book regulation
of PNF about the banner and pennant.
        cheers
        Raffaello

P.S. we have in the WAF an Italian-Axis forum.

          Hello RC:
I do not agree, based on the period G.I.L. parade photo already
posted - showing mult-loop banners with eagle wing tips down
pole tops. Your cited AB (R.I.P.) book drawing fails to show that
significant detail, and also leaves out IMO other G.I.L. standard
examples I wrote him about many years ago now.

            Hello oldflagswanted,

I'm sorry but your knowledge of Italian flags/pennants is incorrect...
In the book there are eight pages on flags and pennants of GIL
your interest are flags, in future purchase the book is an very good
            reference for your passion.
Here are some scans of the book of top pole GIL.
            regards

P.S. more emoticons don't are an good reference in this thread

this is an enlarge scan of the book table, the design
is original of the PNF regulations, does not exist another
flag/pennant pole top similar for the GIL.
In the photo of parade sometimes the sport associations
are walking togheter with GIL; becouse are young fascist
sport association this is the confusion...

I obtained the AB book (ISBN 88-7133-245-8) back when it
was published. I pointed out a number of errors to AB, based
on period photo details, and/or missing period photos at odds
with the shown incorrect AB reconstructions of pole tops & flags.
So I again do not agree with your opinions based on AB errors.

                    RC:
My 40 years of experience with world wide military and para-
military flags, has provided some hard earned opinions about
collector reconstruction errors. Post #8 not BA book included eagle
tops, actually came from WW2 Allied vet estates at different times
and locations - UK & NZ. Indeed big problem with use of PNF flag
regulation graphics, is that IMO WW2 era Italian flag makers did
deviate from same as their products were not seemingly enforced
by a strict Nazi RZM type organization. I will see if I can find my
AB pointed out book errors letter, and what I provided from my
10,000 plus world wide all period flag photo archive. In 2010 I
switched to just screen use verified (by me) Hollywood movie flags.

(below) More recently obtained items (left & right), center "real" GIL
eagle standard I found in a San Francisco junk store for $100 in 1970's.
