Kettle Drum Skirt 116th J. Rgt.

A friend of mine picked this up straight from the US vet several years back. It is "half" of the drum skirt. Apparently, the vet shared his booty with another vet and cut this one in half.

Nicely decorated with a chain-stitched Adler and the Iron Cross, it still has suffered from the test of time.

    Overall a nice piece.

Very nice piece. So this was the same Infanterie-Regiment Kaiser Wilhelm (2. Grossherzoglisch Hessiches Nr. 116)? I like the rampant Hessische lions.

Thanks guys. Cloth isn't my thing. This (as well as some other items I've got in hand) will soon be on the E-Stand.

                Hello TK:
Lion shields and wreaths appear to have been added
after the IC, eagle, and large lettering, per back side.

And here's another one, which has survived in somewhat better condition:

                    Yes,

I saw that one. Interesting that it is identical.... (only in much better condition).

Some research would provide information about what US unit captured the Inf Rgt 116 base. Apparently, some of the guys got into the band storage area and took the drum skirts and, no doubt, trumpet banners, etc. Here's some unit info http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/...er/IR116-R.htm

If the story about the cut skirt is fresh and the vet is still alive, maybe there's an interesting story there. Perhaps Craig Gottlieb got his complete skirt through a traceable source as well.
